Rumbaclaat rum bottle and a filled tasting glass on a wooden barrel against a dark timber wall.

My role

UX/UI lead and brand designer, working alongside the developers to deliver the whole solution: the identity, the storefront and the e-commerce engine behind it.

Approach

  1. Branding: identity, palette, typography and tone, each tied to strategy, signalling premium but characterful and leaning into the Caribbean heritage the name plays on.
  2. An accessible age-gate: keyboard-operable, screen-reader-friendly and never trapping the user, meeting the legal requirement without wrecking the experience.
  3. The shopping journey: product pages that sell the story as well as the bottle, a clear path from browse to basket to checkout, and trust signals at the points where people hesitate.
  4. E-commerce foundations: product catalogue, basket, checkout and payments, order emails and delivery rules, all designed as one joined-up journey rather than separate screens.
  5. Working with the developers: designs handed over as working front-end code and clear specs, with regular reviews so decisions on payments, stock and compliance were made together, not bolted on at the end.
  6. Compliance built in: age verification, alcohol sales rules and accessibility treated as part of the design from day one.
  7. The build: a ProcessWire site, from interface to cart, payments and compliance logic, tested across devices before launch.

Research, iteration and delivery

Researched
Looked at how premium spirits brands sell online, where shoppers drop out, and what the law asks of anyone selling alcohol direct to consumers.
Iterated
Worked the brand, the shopping journey and the technical build together with the developers, reviewing each stage so payments, stock, delivery and age checks shaped the design instead of arriving late.
Delivered
A total e-commerce solution: brand identity, storefront, basket and checkout, payments, compliance and an accessible age gate, live at rumbaclaatrum.co.uk.
In short
Design and development working as one team to launch a new brand straight to its customers.
